The First Blog Post
For my first blog, I just
wanted to explore my reasons for starting a blog, put it out there and test the
water, so to speak. Something nice and simple…so here it goes…
I have spent the last 12
months as a full time stay-at-home dad (SAHD), which sounds much better than out of
work bum, right? In a lot of ways my daughter, now rapidly approaching 3 years
old, has been my salvation. Without her, being an out of work, desperate house
husband, would be very lonely and boring. However, if you have ever tried
holding a conversation with a 2 year old, you will know it’s not the most
intellectually stimulating experience!
I regularly attend ‘mums
and bubs groups’, which gives me contact with some like minded people, although
rarely do I see other dads. The conversation is generally limited to the
weather, children and your partner's inadequacies (of which my wife has none!). I
have become a bit of a social media addict, commenting on everything and
anything, putting my opinion across whether people like it or not. I’ve come to
realise this could be a bit of a problem and maybe I need a better, more
cathartic form of output, that doesn't involve leaving funny (read as sarcastic)
comments on all my ‘friends’ posts.
So…blogging, it’s the (not
so new) thing to do, everyone’s doing it, from kids to bored house wives to
professionals selling you this that and the other. There’s a blog for everyone! So what about dads? Well there are
100’s of daddy bloggers, but should this make me re-think writing a blog or
should it give me comfort that I am not alone!? I think it’s a great comfort
and a form of inspiration. There are other dads doing the same thing and we all
have our experiences to share, just like mummy bloggers.
